Henning Koppel (1917 - 1981) was originally from Copenhagen and joined the Georg Jensen Company when he was 27 years old. From the beginning, his silver work was abstract and sculptural and unlike anything that had come before. His first designs were for jewelery and the shapes were fluid and organic looking, closer to the work of other artists of his time such as Aalto, Calder, Dali and Leger than anything ever produced by the silversmith Georg Jensen.
Throughout his career, his designs for jewelry, cutlery or cutlery represented a radical departure from that of all Jensen designers who preceded him. From Jensen's own ornate nature-inspired designs to Sigvaard Bernadotte's austere, functionalist designs, Koppel's highly original work was in the spirit of modern art. He attracted international attention and made Georg Jensen a leader in the Scandinavian modern design movement.
